Rick Grimes Trends On Twitter Ahead Of The Walking Dead’s Last Comic-Con

Andrew Lincoln’s fan-favorite sheriff, Rick Grimes, trends on Twitter ahead of The Walking Dead’s final San Diego Comic-Con panel this weekend.

Andrew Lincoln’s fan-favorite sheriff, Rick Grimes, trends on Twitter ahead of The Walking Dead‘s final Comic-Con panel. First airing in 2010, AMC’s zombie drama quickly became a hit, introducing audiences to the post-apocalyptic world first seen in Robert Kirkman’s comic book of the same name. Rick acts as the viewers’ introduction to the world of The Walking Dead, waking up from a coma and then setting off to find his family. Although he remained a beloved character on the show throughout its run, Rick departed The Walking Dead in season 9 in 2018 and has yet to reappear.

Not long after Rick was whisked away in a helicopter after his apparent death, it was announced that the character would get his own trilogy of solo movies. News of the Rick spinoff films has been hard to come by since the initial announcement and short teaser trailer shown at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, but producer Scott M. Gimple confirmed in 2020 that pre-production on the films was still underway. With The Walking Dead set to air its final episodes later this year, fans are gearing up for the show’s last panel at SDCC later this week, but the Rick solo movies still remain a major question mark.

Seemingly prompted by a recent picture of Lincoln posing with a fan, fans of The Walking Dead have taken to Twitter to celebrate all things Rick Grimes. The character has since become a trending topic on the site, with many fans reminiscing about his time on the show. Others, however, speculate that due to Lincoln’s beard and longer hair in the picture, the actor could be gearing up to finally begin filming on his solo movies or perhaps a cameo in The Walking Dead‘s final episodes. With The Walking Dead‘s upcoming Comic-Con appearance confirmed to be the show’s last, the panel would be an opportune time to provide more information on the Rick spinoff films. After all, the first teaser for the films was first unveiled almost exactly three years ago, making an official announcement long overdue. If the panel does include an update on the films, it would also make sense that Lincoln himself be there to participate, but nothing has been confirmed just yet.

Regardless of whether news on the Rick Grimes movies emerges this weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, it’s clear the character still holds a special place in many fans’ hearts. Rick has been absent from the shows for almost four years at this point, but he’s one of the main reasons why The Walking Dead became so popular in the first place. While The Walking Dead may be ending, the love for Rick Grimes would seem to live on, and fans haven’t given up hope on his long-awaited spinoff films just yet.
