Marvel Had Full Control Over Daredevil’s Suit

Charlie Cox is set to make his proper Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Daredevil in the ongoing Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law series. According to head writer Jessica Gao, the suit Cox wears in the series, while different from his past outfit, was not totally up to the team behind the show.

Speaking to Lifehacker in a recent interview, Gao was asked about Daredevil’s upcoming appearance in the series. The head writer mentioned that using the character was something they wanted to do from the very beginning, and while Marvel Studios didn’t have a problem with it, they did have one requirement that was non-negotiable.

“Usually how they do it is they kind of let us propose what we want to do rather than give us guidelines. When they first told us that [Daredevil] was a possibility we just couldn’t believe it,” revealed Gao. “And as we were coming up with story and what we wanted him to do, the fact that they kept not saying no was shocking to us. The one thing that I didn’t have control of was the suit. They knew exactly what they wanted the suit to look like.”

For fans who were eagle-eyed, they may have noticed that Daredevil shows up in his original costume from the first few issues of his comic book series, which features much more yellow than the near-all-red outfit most fans know him for. However, fans will have to wait until the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series to likely see more of Cox and his costumes.

Described as a 10-episode legal comedy, the She-Hulk series will be led by Emmy and Golden Globe winner Tatiana Maslany, who will take on the titular role as Jennifer Walters. She will be joined by Avengers: Endgame star Mark Ruffalo and Tim Roth (The Incredible Hulk) as they reprise their respective roles as Bruce Banner/The Hulk and Abomination.
